I'm trying to setup a test network using an Actiontec PK5000. My problem is I'm unable to get the Actiontec to see the external modem that receives internet. This modem/router is not like others where you can set the Wan and Lan.

That's because it has a modem built in. You'd be better using a pure router than a router/modem combo.
