tcptest.exe?

Forgive me for signing up for this forum just for a request, but I am completely beffudled...Apologies in advance if I p*ss anyone off

I ran the XP service pack 2 with a disc from microsoft that was sent to me...On the version in "Recent Updates", i'm missing wbemtest.exe, and it cannot find it, and on the disc version, it cannot find tcptest.exe...I was wondering if anyone could give me a link to download both of these programs from. I've been pouring through google for the last 2 hours, and have found nothing. Apologies in advance if I've done something wrong, and thankyou in advance for any help you are able to give. Also, when I open up internet explorer, I receive the message "Apologies for the inconvenience, but IE has encountered a problem and needs to close"...and if I do it with MSN, I get the same problem. I've scanned my pc with AVG Free Edition, and it turned up 135 problems, all of which were healed successfully. I was wondering whether the constant crashing was due to not having SP2, or possibly due to spyware/adware. I have ad-aware SE, Spyware doctor, spybot S&D, AVG Free Edition, Norton, although I don't know which norton  , and a few others. I haven't scanned with all of them yet. I'd appreciate any help anyone good give.

Thanking you kindly,

Damage.

DO you have 2 antivirus softwares in your system ? IF SO: Uninstall one ASAP. Then click on greyknights link below and follow the instructions for the clean up.

Apologies for the inconvenience, but IE has encountered a problem and needs to close
Just curious is the error message this kind seriously ?

1st thing ... try set your bios to boot from cdrom 1st
2nd thing ... try using the bootable cd to boot...
3rd thing ... when 1st ask, do u wan to repair, just press ESC
4th thing ... press F8 for the agreement
5th thing ... now you press "R" for repair, if the installation found a previous windows.
6th thing ... it will be like reinstalling your windows without removing your installed software...

***Notice*** make sure you try to backup your data ****
Dave, I'll try that. and Sky, if dave's idea works, then I'll follow your advice. I use avg not the CONTROL CENTRE, I use the actual virus scanner. But if you think it's best to remove it, I will. Thankyou both for your kind advice.

It didn't ask me to repair, and my pc still won't load properly :(

Any other ideas people?

Looks like a very severe infection and corruption. If windows cant even offer a repair option then it is unfortunetely very corrupted. I would do a clean install of my OS with SP2. If you have extremely important data in the system, you can install this HD as slave to a very well protected computer and get the data and scan it and after the fresh install transfer it. If not i would just proceed with the installation.
Umm...I did the BIOS through setup...since that's about all I can access...is that where the repair option comes from? If not, PLEASE let me know where.
If you can, download and burn KNOPPIX to a cd (it is an .iso), a live-cd version of Linux. You boot from that and download F-prot from the internet, here is a thread talking about it. Here also talks about it.
...hmm...so i'd burn ISO to a disc using this pc...then what? Put it in Cd drive when I boot up pc? Because If i need to be logged in, it ain't going to work :(
btw...boots LINUX...? I run windows xp...that'd mean i'd switch to linux...right? I'm good with computer functions, but not with OS. :(
You have to burn it as a image (Nero) or in Roxio just double-click the thing on your desktop. No it doesn't install Linux onto your pc. All you do (once you burn it *if you burned it right*) is put it in, start the 'puter, hit enter *it'll say hit enter to load into linux*, then it loads up. Then you can try those a-v's that I posted links on how to use *because you can access the net thru KNOPPIX *KNOPPIX runs entirely off of the disc**. If it works, good, if not, and you wanna get out: hit [CTRL]+[ALT]+[DEL], turn off comp, it'll shut down but it'll eject the cd before it fully shuts down.

KNOPPIX, KNOPPIX forums wiki's, documentations, FAQ's etc.
so you mean in the meantime, i'll have access to the net through my pc? even though it won't boot up?
If it is connected to a modem or router or whatnot.

I've read KNOPPIX will run on a comp without a harddrive, and I'd believe it. It runs entirely off of the cd.
hmm...that's alright...but what will that allow me to do? I might be able to access the net...I REALLY don't want to sound ungrateful, because I'm not, I really appreciate the help, but what is accessing the net going to do? I can't find a way to fix my pc...

Dear Damage, I see you got confused about the repair installation. This Article would be a good guide for you. Sorry for not being able to answer earlier.
hmm...anyone know where I can find an ISO for a windows XP boot disk? lol...I seem to have lost mine :|
I'll try and find it. Purple, dave, all of you, THANKYOU SO MUCH. If this works, I will owe you so much. and if it doesn't, I oew you for trying, ya?
I'll find my cd somehow. lol. That reminds me...PurpleSky...that guide you gave me...it's great. I wouldn't have a clue what to do :p

I'm good with computer FUNCTIONS like I said...I'll write html, I'll work with photoshop, and I can sort out a few viruses...but something like this...sheesh. *makes hand over head motion*
Well what I meant with the internet is that you can d/l that F-Prot for KNOPPIX and scan your Windows for virii.
Ah. I need to be able to actually get BACK on my pc, so it's working...but I'll do what you said. Thanks.
