Right.

Picked up a nasty virus. took me abit to corner it (and according to virus scanner) remove it.

But the problem has not gone away.

Symptons:

System32 is hidden (to an extent that with hidden folders marked visible i still cant see it and have to type in its location) and is locked to read only so i cannot turn hidden off or unlock it.

The result is i cannot access anything on my control panal. And any program i click goes to open with and i have to point to its .exe and it wont remember this the next time i click on the program.

I tried

-system restore
-virus scanning windows folder
-unchecking read only in system32
-safe mode

I am near exploding any sort of help would be greatly appreciated.

F-Prot Virus scanner couldnt identify it. But i know what it came from and googled the file it came from and a few websites reported it being Win32.Tibick.A.

Now after searching i learned system32 is meant to be hidden. but that doesnt explain why most of my core programs cannot find rundll.exe and that all my other programs require me manually select the original executable in open with (even if i click on the executable in the first place) :4-dontkno

NEW DEVELOPMENT!

On executables if i right click select 'run as' (which i never saw before) the program runs without asking me to select it from the open with list.
