Hello all. I have a Gateway laptop with Windows XP Media Center Edition SP2. For some reason, the system32 folder always opens promptly at midnight. I suspect it's something simple causing it, but I don't know where to start looking. This has been happening for a few weeks. In msconfig, the only items that I could find that come from there are ctfmon.exe and wltray.exe. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I can't help you unfortunately. I've had the same problem for the last few weeks it just started happening. It happens the exact same way, I have a desktop so I don't think it has anything to do with being a desktop or a laptop. I see you and I have the same operating system. It may have some thing to do with that.

What a strange problem! It's not a huge deal, but it can be annoying at times. I doubt it was a Windows Update, since I have automatic updates turned off. Maybe Microsoft is on a mission to annoy. Oh well. If you figure anything out, post it here. I'll do the same. Thanks for the reply!

Hmm... I'm not finding that in my MSCONFIG. Could you be more specific, please. Thanks!
same here

I found on the web that "l:\ eng" in in the msconfig on Dell computers here is the link where I found it at. But it has to do with startup problems though. I think this is what Mon is talking about. I don't have a Dell computer and I could bet you don't either.
