System Temps

Hi, i recently built my new machine and was wondering about the temps it should run at.

the specs are

2600+ AMD Athalon XP
Gigabyte GA-7VA-C
512mb DDR333 Ram

it runs at about 40C idle and about 50C full load.

is this normall or a bit high, if its high how can i get it down, it is cooled by two fans, yourl see how below but if it is still runnning hot how can i get it down?

If the max processor temp is 50C, I don't think I'd worry about it, that's fine. The AMD processors don't run that cool anyway...

amd cpu's can run up to 79 degrees without problems, it's a "side affect" of amd cpu's. they do it normaly. nothing to fear about

while intel's pentium and celeron only go to 39 degrees overall. they can go up to 59 before they're level is critical...

some airing holes could help. or a nice big fan :bandit:

79?!?!

omg, 79 degrees is really an ok cpu temp for amd?

that is the oddest thing ive heard....

and here i am whining about mine getting up to 60....

well im gonna poop a brick....

and here i was about to tear my case into small parts, and use its back panel and drive bays to make a new one with.....
and all because my processor peaks at about 62 degrees in hard core gameplay....

yup, 62 peak/58 nominal/55 idle

system temp stays way cool, i have a fan blowing right on that part of the board....

not that bad i guess...

i was just about to start building a larger more ventilated case...

one like the old 286's and older ( flatcases rock! )

i was going to run three 6 inch 110 volt ac case fans....

it was going to have a cpu wind tunnel with a copper heatsink....

now i have no need for it...

that's ok, i like my mini tower more anyway.

but i really do want an old flat case...
anyone know anyone in the portland, oregon/vancouver, washington area that still has old 286 flat cases laying around in a pile?
i wouldnt expect to pay more than about 10 bucks for one...
.... but i didnt say i wouldn't

or maybe i could just buy a really large wharehouse box fan, and just save time by building my pc inside of it....

Well madeyalook, you can normally see your system and CPU temps in the bios, under the heading PC health status or something along those lines

Actually, if it gets past the low 60's, I'd probably be looking into more cooling. Anyone that gets the AMD processor into the 70's is either overclocking or running with a lousy heatsink.

hi,
this made me chuckle, while reading through my mobo manual i came across one of the features, it says that when the CPU reaches a critical temp the system shuts down. oOo i thought might be handy, untill i read down the page the temp the cut off is set at on my board is 110C. Hmmm i think it may have cooked by then.....

hmm

Well, i just don't know anymore.

my mainboard shuts off at 65 degrees of proscessor temp, so is that my top temp? is that the temp i should worry about.

it doesnt shut off, cos i have that feature disabled from when it used to run at 68 degrees, back when i had a huge wad of dust clogging my fan and heatsink...

but i have no clue what a safe temp is for my AMD K6-2 450 MHZ processor. i will assume 65 is too high, and 50 is alright...

on second though i will be building my "wind tunnel" PC case...

with one of those fan shaped copper heatsink, with the sink isolated in a tunnel with a 6 inch fan at each end....

If you want an illuminating view of processor cooling, stop over to Tom's Hardware and look for the Intel & AMD heatsink test. The Intel P4 just slowed down to protect the processor and kept running when the heat sink was removed, most impressive! The Intel P3 crashed, but didn't damage the processor or other parts, not too bad. Both AMD processors went up in smoke, and I believe one took the MB with it! Be careful with the heatsinks on an AMD!

well

even with a feature like that, i dont like intel at all.

every machine i have had to throw away has been an intel...

every machine that i hate, is an intel....

i dont trust intel...

i dont like the way their machines run....

i hate them....

but yes, that is a most impressive feature....

after all, even ford invented some things that changed the industry, but it doesnt mean they made good stuff.

hmmm, 65 for a 450 seems hot too me, i used to be able to get my 1.0ghz duron to run at 30c idle and 35c full load.

hmm

well, i cut a hole in the side of my case and put in a fan feeding air to the cpu fan. it isnt as good as i wished for, but it'll do for now. i now have idle50/peak53

alot better i'd say.

My 1.4GHZ athlon (non xp) been running 86 degress with no problem. But still so now I leave my case window open, & I though another fan on the over side of the heatsink, so now I have 2 fans. And its running around 67 degrees I can't wait to put in my new athlon 3000+ with new fan
