I have just reinstalled Xp pro sp 2 after dramas with old mobo and vga. all fine now, however, in system start up it looks like I have 2 os to choose from... :4-dontkno could anybody suggest from the following which one I can safely delete.

[boot loader]
timeout=0
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

Also, how the hell do I get rid of the LOgin Screen. I never had it before and have unchecked the logon screen in User Accounts...any ideas ???

You need to edit the boot ini

If the first one is working then delete the second entry

Click Start>right click on My Computer>Properties>Advanced>Startup and recovery settings>Edit
and then just delete the entry that is no good

Turn off Welcome Screen
Start > Control Panel > User Accounts

Select "Change the way users log on or off"

Uncheck the "Welcome Screen" option

Click "Apply Options"

The settings will take effect when you log off.

The "Log On" option also changes the way "Ctrl Alt Del" works...

Under the "Welcome Screen" option you are taken into the "Task Manager" dialog box.

Under the "Log On Screen" you are given the Windows Security dialog box, which gives you far more options!

The "Log On Screen" also renames "Turn Off Computer" on the Start menu to "Shut Down".

The other main feature you get is the ability to log on to ANY user account, whereas under the "Welcome Screen" you can NOT access hidden users.

So, as you can see there are benefits to using the "Log On Screen" over the "Welcome Screen" option.
