I logged onto my pc today and my desktop seems to have lost some folders that were on it.
My e-mail has also reset to what it was when i first got it.
My favourites on explorer has also dissapeared.
Being a relative novice i'm completly confused.
I have norton anti virus and have run a full scan, which came up ok.
Any advice would be appreciated.
The folders are still in the hard drive,it was just the short cuts that dissapeared.

Have you tried System Restore or is that the problem?

It seems that whenever i turn the computer on any folders on the desk top,favourites in int explorer have all reset to default.
I haven't even bothered about outlook.

I Have Norton Anti Virus And Am Worried About Any Conflict With The Suggested Links.

uninstall norton, you could always put the thing back if you really wanted to.

I dont suggest uninstalling Norton unless your having issues with it.
Using Spybot, Housecall or Ewido will not cause any conflicts with your antivirus program.

I RAN AN ONLINE SCAN AND FOUND NO PROBLEMS.
I DID HOWEVER FIND THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH MY USER PROFILE AND HAVE SET UP A NEW USER.
THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAVE NOW IS THAT I UNINSTALLED NORTON AND I AM NOW TRYING TO REINSTALL,I KEEP GETTING A MESSAGE THAT I NEED TO CANCEL LIVE/AUTO UPDATES BEFORE I CAN INSTALL.
I HAVE SEARCHED FOR LIVE UPDATES AND CANCELLED THE ONES I FOUND, BUT AM STILL GETTING THE SAME MESSAGE.
IS THERE ANOTHER WAY OF FINDING WHERE THE LIVE UPDATES ARE ,OTHER THAN BY USING SEARCH?

This is the reason why I never suggest uninstalling Norton unless you are having an issue with the program itself.
Norton gets very imbedded in the system. there are removal tools for some versions. What version of Norton are you using?

I Followed The Link, The Only Problem I Still Have Is That When I Put The Cd In And Begin Installation I Get A Message ' The Msi Must Be Launched Through Set Up '
Then The Installation Stops?

I am starting the process from scratch.
When removing previous installed norton, i am told to click on link symNRT.exe
but got no response.
I'm sure this must be my stumbling block.

Another way to completely remove Norton is to edit the registry.

I strongly recommend you backup your registry before editing :sayyes:


Click Start>Run and type in regedit
Click Edit > Find
type in norton and delete in the right side all keys found. After it has finished go back and click Edit>Find again and type in symantec and repeat the process.

Unfortunately this is the only way I can successfully remove all traces of Norton.
