Swapping Processors...???

1299 Views 3 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Rebellion88
My Computer, Used for Games has a basic, Northwood 2GHz CPU. The PC that is used by my parents has a 3.06GHz processor, with the same socket (478)

I recently OC's my CPU to 3GHz to see the performance increase, Which was pretty big.

Sooooooo I'd like to know If I can swap them without updating drivers, BIOS, etc.

Thanks!

Firstly, could you find out what motherboard your system uses, secondly some of the older P4's and motherboards that support them only support 400mhz front side bus speeds, where as newer P4's are more likely to be 533mhz.
My Motherboard Is an Asrock P4i65G which I think is Newer than the other Computer's default one, since I bought this one in March.

On the Asrock site it says "Supports FSB800/533/400MHz processor, and H-T Technology" so is it ok?
Yeah swapping it should be fine and you will notice a good performance increase. When doing so make sure you get rid of any thermal compound and apply some new stuff on the processor.
