Swapping HDs

I was wondering if i could swap a hard drive from one computer to another and the other HD to the other one?

Is there an OS on the drives? If it's 2000 or earlier then yes. If it's XP or newer then no. If it's Linux or Unix or MacOS then I have no clue.

Thats a dangerous game that I dont suggest if you have valuable data on the drives ??????

Generally speaking the different hardware enviro caused by the diff mobo's will crash the OS's
