i just installed a program called Aye parental control, i think it might be the reason why i have this svcohost in my computer right now. i tried searching for it with the search fuction in the start menu, but it couldnt find a svcohost. so i used msconfig and found it in windows\a1_p2_c3\svcohost.exe. the directory a1_p2_c3 doesnt show up in the windows folder even when i unhide the hidden stuff, so i typed in the folder name in the adress bar and it lead me to the control panel....is the control panel directory really a1_p2_c3? those letters a, p, and c corresponse with the name of the software (A)ye (P)arental (C)ontrol. can someone help me with this? i used ad aware and AVG free edition anti virus. AVG listed it as OK...but google says different...

Hi and Welcome to TSF

svcohost.exe is useally a trojan and NOT part of any legit program.

Before attacking an adware/spyware problem with hijackthis make sure you have already run the following tools. Download and update the databases on each program before running.

Also make sure you are using the the latest version (1.99.1) of HijackThis and it's installed in it's own folder on the root drive. (C:\HJT)

Once you complete those steps please download hijackthis...do a scan, save the log and post it here. Also include the log from the Panda scan below...

Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan
** click on "Free use ActiveScan" located on the top right hand corner
  1. Click Scan your PC & a 'pop up' window shall appear. *ensure that your pop up blocker doesn't block it
  2. Click Scan Now
  3. Enter your e-mail address & click Scan Now ...begins downloading 8 MB Panda's ActiveX controls
Begin the scan by selecting My Computer
  • If it finds any malware, it will offer you a report.
[*] Click on see report. Then click Save report
Please post that log in your next reply.

i didnt try the panda anti virus yet though...im thinking maybe i should go out and get a anti virus program thats better? =/ AVG free i hear is pretty good for a free AV, but the $$ ones are probably better arent they? =p

i hear NOD32 is pretty good, some people say its better than norton...and then theres NAV somethting also...what do you think? i never heard of panda....but then again, i only knew norton and mcafee...

First...the Panda scanner is an online scanner..and NOT a stand alone virus tool. I personally use AVG FREE as mine and have never had an issue. Any bought program will be no better. Norton is a system hog and causes more problems then it solves.

whoa...i didnt think panda would do much for me cuz its free and online =/ so i didnt use it. its been a few days. and when i tryed to get into my email i got a redirected to another page. i tried asking for help on a few other forums also and it kept redirecting me too... so then i used panda and it found and deleted 4 viruses and found 9 spywares...it didnt get rid of the spywares but i found them and deleted them manually. theyll probably be back wont they?

one of the viruses was C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\GLF37GLF37.EXE
there was a smilar file there...GLF2something.exe i thought it might have been a virus also even though panda didnt catch it, so i double clicked it and it loaded a virus onto my computer which AVG got rid of :1angel: atleast i think it did....it said it found a virus on a pop up window, i clicked continue not heal and it just disappeared....

one other thing...it found this
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\javapi\v1.0\file\SecurityClassLoader.class-7fd6bea0-2e69b512.class
there are alot of other securityclassloaders in that folder...should i delete those too? i find most of the time i get viruses they are in that same directory..\v1.0\file and \v1.0\something

thanks for the help! i should have taken your advice on using panda sooner

i guess i will be changing my email password and checking my credit card historty tommorrow :sayyes:

i still think AVG free sucks though...=/ the panda titanium has a monthly fee on it :4-thatsba this suks....things cost too much these days...

Please follow the instructions here for clearing out your java cache...
http://www.java.com/en/download/help/cache_virus.xml

Since you installed another virus..lets use another scanner and make sure it's gone...

Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with

Kaspersky WebScanner

Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Anti-Virus Web Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    • Standard
    • Scan Options:
    • Scan Archives
      Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:
    • Select My Computer
  • This will program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
    • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.
Take note the names and locations of any file it detects but fails to clean.

* Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan

hey...after posting that last message i tried to get into my email again and still had problems. so i downloaded nod32. things are pretty much ok now...i think. there are probably still more viruses. it found alot and didnt let me delete like half of them, it quarentined them and asked me to send them in for analysis. do you know what it means when the anti-virus cant open files? it says (file locked) or (access denied). does that mean the virus is trying to infect those files or something? the files that are locked/dnied are pretty much random...some mozilla files, pictures, internet exploror, adobe....ntuser.dat and ntuser.dat.log came up alot though....is that a bad thing?

omg i totally forgot why i posted that!

its cuz when i turn off my computer now, i get a pop up box while the screen turns into that blue logon screen thing. when you start>shutdown>shutdown, it logs you out of windows and brings you to a blue screen. thats when i get a pop up titled windows - drive not ready
it says: the drive is not ready for use; its foor may be open and i didnt get the rest written down in time...its talking about my A drive but the funny thing is...i dont even have a A drive installed in my computer...all i have is a cd/dvd drive.

i guess its not a harmful thing...but it sure is kinda annoying....

Hello jepherz,

I strongly suggest you provide us with a HijackThis log.

Please click on the link below to download the latest version:
HiJackThis_sfx.exe
1. Double-click on the file you just downloaded.
2. Click on the "Unzip" button to install the newer version.
3. It will by default install to the directory - C:\PROGRAM FILES\HIJACKTHIS
4. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'.
5. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log.
6. Post the HijackThis log here.

Also, do as Microbell asked and run another online scan at Kaspersky and post the results here as well.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
MSPY2002 sounds suspicious....
the winsvr.exe i believe is a virus...if i remember correctly, panda ot NOD32 found it. i remember going around deleting a few files that were noted as being viruses but i wasnt given the option to delete them so i did it manually....

the message is get when windows shuts down is
title: windows - drive not ready
it says: the drive is not ready for use; its door may be open. please check drive A: and make sure that a disk is inserted and that the drive door is closed.

i dont have a A: drive, however, there is a A: drive that is in my "My computer" folder or whatever. i am not sure if it was there before....

IMPORTANT!:

Before we can proceed any further, please visit the Microsoft's Windows Update Page and install ALL Critical Updates for your system (except service pack 2) (SP2). SP2 should only be installed on a fully disinfected system. At the minimum install at least SP1a for both XP and IE6. Without these updates your system is wide open to re-infection and we are both wasting our efforts to clean your system. After we have completed your clean-up, we will have you return to the Windows Update page and install SP2. We will also then advise you on how to better protect yourself online.

Please apply those updates BEFORE posting your next log. It is this forum's policy to stop the disinfection process until these basic updates are done. If during the updating process you get a message that your product key is invalid ....then you may not have a legitimate copy of Windows XP. Unfortunately it’s also this forums policy that we only address users with a legal copy of Windows XP.... therefore if you can not update Windows XP to SP1 we must stop the cleansing process here.

**Note** If your having trouble locating the service pack SP1a here is a direct link to download it from..
