Hey guys:

I'm trying to get some background information on Sun log messages.

I've found some log messages on the /var/adm/messages directory and the /var/log/syslog directory.

I've been trying to figure out what the difference in log directories is. Far as I can tell now, they are simply differences in system priority and type of problem.

However, I haven't been able to determine specifics behind these directories. If any of you know good pages for finding information on this, I'd appreciate some help. Also, I understand this isn't the most straight forward question so I'm sorry if I confused anyone. Just let me know and I'll try to clear it up. Thanks.

syslog knows where to send messages according to the entries in /etc/syslog.conf.

google syslog and syslog.conf for details.
