First question is why are you running 98 on a P4 2Ghz. Thats kinda like putting Yugo tires on a Corvette. You should scare up a copy of 2K or even better XP. Second, what program are you playing your MP3s in?

yeah its my dads cpu, he doesn't like it when i load shtuff on his cpu and f it up like i do. i try to play madden and at the menus it messes up when im playing mp3's, and when i try to use the ati player. i think it has something to do with the compression of the audio

Its most likely a software issue, try a differant mp3 player. Winamp is a great one. Also I would reintstall the driver for your soundcard. And if all else fails insure that the PCI slot your card lives in is not sharing any resources with anyother PCI slots

That's strange. Is the speed of the time display normal on the ati file player? Have you tried a different player? I have the ati file player and prefer winamp. To each is own though.
