Stuttering problem in Counter strike and Cod4

I take back that earlier thread of mine saying PunkBuster was causing lag for me in Cod4...it is making lag in start of rounds but the regular hiccups ive been having isn't because of PB!!!...reason is because I get the same exact looking spikes in Counter strike 1.6. Look at the net graph in 1st pic and the lagometer in 2nd pic


What the ...? I'm sure im the only one having this problem in my area
My computer can easily run Modern warfare 2 smooth so theres no question about this being a hardware problem...I tried CS 1.6 with my old 7600 GS card and still the same problem of lag spikes...

My router wasn't the free one given by my ISP(stupid of me)... I can only think there MUST be something wrong with the routing to Cod4 and Cs 1.6 servers. (I get 30-50 ping btw)

And I noticed my NAT is open while trying out MW2 multiplayer while ALL my friends had a "strict" NAT...is there something wrong with my router settings?

What spikes. The pictures are not very descriptive.
In general Spikes happen, it could be due to a packet overheads a new client joining the game, your PC could be loading textures/models from the HDD to your RAM.
In console type "net_graph 3". It will give you a better description.

In first pic bottom graph is how my game is updating with the server, and at the moment that red spike appears my shot(bullets) wont hit target and i end up getting killed..and if i look at a teammate right when the spike happens their model jumps

in 2nd pic, on top part the blue line shows how my game is updating with server...that line should not have any yellow, and these spikes are the same exact ones i get in cs 1.6

i have 2 sticks of 1 gb 667 GHZ RAM btw..heres a dxdiag of my system

I tried like 5,6 servers in distance of 1000 or so miles all of them in which my packet loss test failed. "Unable to test packet loss"

Grade : C* - "You will have some disadvantage in online games"
Ping to Kuala lumpur : 169 ms
Jitter : 31 ms

I don't know if these readings are good or bad, anyway thanks so far for the help.

On another thing I think there also might be something wrong with filtering/processing of textures...in the game(cod4) running my own non dedicated server if i look at a plane wall with nothing else my fps stays stable....then when I look at the open areas it starts to change...this even happens if I run Cod4 @ lowest possible settings and resolution with fps capped at 40 lol

That website is still in Beta and the packet test can fail if your router blocks port 5060 for TCP and UDP. Setup port forward for your router and allow 5060 through your firewall.
For realistic ping results choose a server that is close to you.

For your low fps, the 9500GT has almost the same equivilate performance as a 7600GS. Howerver there are two types of 9500GT, one comes with GDDR3 RAM and the other DDR2 RAM. If you have the 9500GT with DDR2 then its a glorified 7600GS that has been given a small 150mhz core boost and SM4.0 support nothing more.
However if you have the GDDR3 version then its core is increased slightly more and the same goes for the memory (GDDR3 @ 800mhz, DDR2 @ 500mhz).

9500GT -
CUDA Cores / 32
GPU Clock / 550 MHz
Shader Clock (MHz) / 1400 MHz
Texture Fill Rate (billion/sec) 8.8

Memory Clock (MHz) / 800 (GDDR3) and 500 (DDR2)
Standard Memory Config / 256/512 MB (other companies throw in 1GB)

7600GS -

Core Clock / 400MHz

The most noticable difference you will find when comparing these cards is that the 9500GT will load textures and maps quicker. Very little difference in raw performance power.

If you think performance has dropped then it could indicate that you do not have sufficent power to run the card properly. What is the make/model of your PSU?

Model : ATX - 450 W

I never knew any details of my 7600 GS (bought it way back)...looks like my 9500 is just a carbon copy of that crap card

FPS isn't a problem tho, this card can handle MW2 @ 1024 resolution and run smooth..

Thanks for the help, can you make a few graphic card suggestions for me that will run Cod4 with no probs? Close this thread b/c I already know whats being lagging me :(
