ok bear with me here. Ive been trying to reformat my brothers computer. He's got windows XP home edition, and I just can't figure out how to get it to work. It actually installed a second copy of XP rather than wipe it and reinstall. Any ideas?
You have to wipe the drive... You need to delete the partition that you are installing to and let windows create a new one as part of the install. All of this can be done from the windows install.
I am sure someone else can help you further. I do not remember what the screens look like or what the options are I just know that they are there.
To get Windows Install to enter the format disk routines, you need to boot the CD. Check your BIOS settings for boot order so that it will look to the CD before the hard disk, then Windows will boot with options to repair, reformat, etc. To reformat the entire disk, pick NTFS - the slow selection.
