Strange system halts with new AGP card

Hey all, today I recieved my brand new ECS AG315T 64MB AGP video card. I was overjoyed to be finally upgrading from my PCI nVidia TNT2 8MB, when errors struck . . .

It seems that randomly the video card will semi-halt. Most of the time the system itself doesn't crash, as I can press WinKey-Up-Enter-Enter to shut down the system, but very little, if anything, of my actions are displayed on-screen. Sometimes I will see the icons in the start menu appear over the rest of the screen, but that is all.

Another strange thing: 3DMark2001 and even the little 3D-demo in the vidcard config area causes this random halt to occur immediately, but the D3D testing in dxdiag and even some 3D games of mine don't.

Currently I am running with my nVidia card back in, so that the error doesn't happen while I am writing this.

System specs:
ECS K7VMA Socket-A motherboard with 1300Mhz AMD processor.
256MB SDRAM (2 128MB sticks)
PCI nVidia Riva TNT2 8MB video card (that works)
AGP ECS AG315T (though the box says AG315P, odd) 64MB vidcard (that causes the errors

)
Esoniq AudoPCI sound card
HP CD-RW drive
CenDyne DVD-ROM drive
10GB Seagate HDD
5GB Maxtor HDD

I am pretty sure that overheating is not the problem, I have run the computer with the case open and a big fan blowing on it, and the error still occurs.

If I had bought it locally I would take it back, but I bought it online so I'm going to try all I can to get it working before attempting get a refund.

AG315P seems to be just the AG315T without the TV-Out. I can't find any drivers for AG315T (I suspect they don't exist), so I'm using AG315P drivers.

Update:
I turned of 4x AGP mode in the BIOS, limiting it to 2x. I haven't had any crashes, and 3DMark2001 worked fine. However, I'm getting a 1264 on 3D-Mark, while I should be getting around 1900 with this card

Any idea on why setting it to 4x makes it mess up so?

Yes, I have all those drivers.

I'm running Windows 98 SE.

On this page SiS seems to describe my problem, and I think it's saying that it's the motherboard's fault. Would flashing the BIOS with the latest update perhaps fix the problem then?
