Hi, I just purchased a SONY VAIO desktop computer and decided not to use the stock speakers, but to use my Viewsonic speakers. It didn't make any sound! Nevertheless, when I tried with the stock SONY (cheap) speakers, then it works.

Observation: The plugs of both speakers are exactly the same size and type. They both have AC plug for power. I tested the Viewsonic speakers on another desktop computer and it worked perfectly.

Anyone knows what the heck is going on?

Hi and welcome to TSF

Although the speaker plugs are the same I wonder if they are wired to operate on the same channels.

Try going to Sound and Audio Devices in the control panel and on the volume tab go into Speaker settings>Advanced>Speaker Set-up and try changing the set-up on the drop down menu.

Did you change the settings? try surround, quad, etc, you won't damage anything by experimenting.

The other things is, are you sure the plugs are the same? Hold them up side by side and see if they have the same number of insulation bands and identical contact areas.

Have you tried the Sony speakers in another PC... if so, did they work?

Have you checked the technical specs of both speakers and do they compare?

There has to be a simple answer to this.
