Well Hi everyone I am new here and I am desperate....

Well I have a laptop (Lenovo 3000 n500 ) and it does some really weird overheating issues!...It had that problem before But I had to left him for 3 months (I had gone to a jungle so I could not take my laptop with me And when I returned everything was fine....

Well here is my problem:

After some hard work (Mentioning that The laptop could run fine at the first 2 years...It started doing it after 1-2 months playing cod4...I was playing normally cod2 but I just wanted to play cod4 too sometime ^^)....It started doing a VOUUUUU (very loud vouuuu and unnormal..after closing the game It just gone to normal vouuuu....and then when I was going back to game...after 10-15 minutes again a VOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU)......Well I dont know if thats called " Overheating " But let me tell you what my problems are...:

1. I have a cooler and today when It did that VOUUU I touched my laptop (from the down side) and it was in...a normal temperature..Not Cold but Somewhere arround cold - a bit heat.....

2. My father is a tech expert and he has cleared the dust and installed something called "pasta" In Greek...Its actually connects the CPU,GPU better with the inside (laptop's) cooler....

But It just do this...and my laptop is so cold...I can not even understand why this happening... :/ Can someone explain me?

Btw that problem Had occured 2x times and now this is the third (Not in short periods but 1 every year .. ) first time I had to go in jungle when I returned everything was fine....The other time I just sticked to my Ubuntu (and I did not used windows) OS... Btw maybe this helps you for helping me : When I switched to ubuntu I was playing a flash game and after some time a VOUUUUU was hearing again...With the time (and not using so much flash types but only browsing forums,fcbk etc.) I show that I could have for many time the Flash game without hearing that annoying VOUUU and the fps dropdown of course (generally the performance) .... and sometime it Just gone...entirily gone....So I could use my laptop again so i switched to windows & ubuntu again..(using both OS) and noww....I was playing cod2..and I decided AGAIN to play some cod4...After 1-2 months of playing the VOUUUU started again (Talking about Now!) and Now I am desperate and I need ur help

I think that maybe my father Know..But I just dont want because he will ***** me hard that I am not treating my laptop good etc. >.<

Laptops commonly have overheating problems while gaming. Online flash games shouldn't stress them too much but games like COD4 will. I noticed that you already tried blowing out the dust inside, but are you using it on a hard flat area while gaming such as a desk? The VOUUUUU sound you hear is probably your fan working hard to try and cool the laptop down.

IMO your better off getting a desktop PC for games. Outside of that, here's what to try.

-Keep free of dust inside your laptop. (From your post it appears this has already been done)
-Monitor system temps in the BIOS.
-Use only on hard flat surface such as a desk.
-Change thermal paste on CPU/GPU.

Yeah sure! flat...I am on a wooden desk which is flat and I have a cooler down from it!...also I saw yesterday via BIOS the temperatures(when it did a VOUUUUUU) and they were not so high ... Please take in mind that after 3 months of not using my laptop my laptop was just fine again :/ Maybe that helps u

I just wana add also that the cooler is a very good cooler...
Enermax Aeolus It does a good job and it has an aluminium surface which makes it even more cold ... In general one day I was drawing and I had itunes opened (I know I close everything when playing dont worry I know some things because my bro is a programmer...he is gona take a scholarship for usa university and my dad creates boards for several things and he is also a programmer too....My bro uses Ubuntu and my dad uses windows and linux) and while I had itunes opened I was browsing (chrome) and had xfire opened ...Nothing serious and that was.. for 10 continiously hours! I was drawing in my desk my laptop next to the place I was drawing and nothing happened for that 10 hours...Its just happen with the games...Atm Nothing happens with flash/...It can play it just fine

What was the temp when system was idleing(at rest) and then after playing COD4?

It definately sounds like an overheating issue to me especially since it occured after playing games.

Very High (checked from program but not from BIOS...It is a reccomended program in many sites) but I touched my laptop from down so it was impossible to have such a temperature..It was 90 c...But It was impossible to have such a temperature..and when I closed game (Its actually need 1 minute to relax) during the VOUUUUUU the temperature was still in 90 c...Then after 1 minute that passed the VOUUUU stopped (U can hear that it does VOUUUUU And then an extremely VOUUUUU and it stops ..the extremely VOUUUUU takes around 0,5 seconds) I was checking all that time the temperatures and then suddenly from 90c I saw it got dropped to 60 c :S

That temp is def way too high but im thinking that you should check it in the BIOS and confirm it because many programs that post the temp are not accurate.

To get in the BIOS, boot up your computer and look for what key to press as soon as the screen lights up for the first time. It will say something like "Press F12 to enter BIOS". (The button to push varies by manufacturer.)

This message is usually displayed in the upper right side or left side of the screen and is usually only present for a few seconds. If you miss it, you will have to restart your machine and look for it again.

You will need to do this after playing a game and once while just at idle again. Post the temps on here to confirm. If they still remain high in the BIOS then your current cooling cannot keep up with the heat being put out by the laptop.

Ok thank you ^^... I checked...And Also I have to say that when I switch to my battery options to balanced or power saver (3 types :gaming, power saver , balanced) the vouuuu is not gona be Heard....

Btw..Checked after playing cod4 15 minuets with battery : gaming I CLOSED my laptop emediately (of course the VOUUUU started being heard)! (If u press the power button for 3 seconds the laptop does a force shut down... I gone to the BIOS..and the temperatures were...50-60 :/
and when u say my "current cooling" You mean that I need more ways to cool my laptop? :/ I have fixed everything from a laptop's overheating problem :/

Duno if this is..accurate but updating the BIOS may help?
I dont know why thats happening :/

My dad opened it again...He watched all parts again (Yeah I told him the problem) He said That I am just overdoing that matter...and That he is sure it is not so much...(but from 200 fps I go to 15 fps >.>) and after watching all the parts he saw that everything is fine

Hi have you tried turning off aero

Never thought about it I turned it off and I will test it today ^^ as soon as I see how it will go on I will answer back here ^^


(ps : switched the win 7 mode back to classic view of win 2000

Ok "burned" My laptop In lowest settings (As I used to do ) and Better performance about the battery settings for 3 hours...And Nothing happened from overheating part .. But seriously...Aero?.. :S... I will still playing this days to see how my laptop will respond in aero off... And if it gets another VOUUUUUU I will contact u ASAP...thanks for the current help . I am pretty sure This is not the solution but srsly.,..If this is the problem then.... D:::::::::::::

I was testing it to cod2 later I will test it on cod4 too... With power battery setting: Performance (best for performance) and I will reply here asap ^^

With sad I say that In the first 15 minutes in cod4 I got an "overheating" I will try with balanced and low performance battery

If u mean If My laptop can handle cod:4 ... No according to the "can you run it" -systems requirement lab- My laptop does not have the proper GPU to run this game...So this maybe is the problem? that means no more cod4? I think The previous time was when I had started playing cod4

I started searching something very interesting...I was thinking that directx9 made my pc overheats (since I use directx7 in cod2) But then I found something VERYYYY Important...I saw that a laptop can be overheated if the Battery is falsy...In this case YES my battery is way falsy...It leaves for 5 min without power supply...this maybe causes the overheating? I hope so If yes then I will say to my dad buy me one ASAP I just need ur assurement

Ok got it No more cod4 I still wana say that there is a problem with my compapibility with directx 9.. Since I saw that limbo uses directx 9 (another game) and that game overheats too... It is a "2d" game btw... (Utube it... it is a bit famous)... or another thought I made is that my laptop can just not handle cod4...so it starts having overheating problems...according to that games that need some good software to play on (Limbo just uses a good shading way I suppose) will start overheating too

So the solution would be : Do not push my computer for a 1-2 weeks and then go back to action *but not cod4 or higher games* right? and using directx7 mostly
