I have a 2 year old Windows Vista laptop. I had it on for a couple of hours yesterday and hit the "install updates and shut down" button at night. The next day i couldn't turn it on at all. the charger light comes on when i plug it into the wall but nothing else is working. I called HP and they said they can remove static buildup ( it sounds like that is the problem) but they don't know for sure. I just don't want to waste my money if it doesn't work... can i remove the static buildup on my own?

Disconnect the charger and remove the battery. Hold in the power button for 30-45 seconds. See if that does the trick. I'm surprised that they didn't have you do that when you were on the phone with them... How much were they going to charge you to send it in for them to do?
