Linux/*nix gives MD5 sums. Can I get one for Spybot Search & Destroy 1.4?
Does WinXP have another system? Can I use MD5 under WinXP?

Before I found this forum, I downloaded Spyware Doctor. It said I had
134 problems including Specific911 Hijack.
Many places were recommending Spybot Search & Destroy 1.4 so I
downloaded it. It said my system is clean.

Spyware Doctor insisted I was infected.

GreyKnight17 in a resolved thread on Specific911 told another user to
download and run regsrch.vb and post the results. So I am doing that.

REGEDIT4
; RegSrch.vbs © Bill James

; Registry search results for string "specific911" 7/11/2005 9:18:47 AM

; NOTE: This file will be deleted when you close WordPad.
; You must manually save this file to a new location if you want to refer to it again later.
; (If you save the file with a .reg extension, you can use it to restore any Registry changes you make to these values.)

[HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-3403473811-2966927733-1597234714-1006\Software\Microsoft\Search Assistant\ACMru\5604]
"000"="Specific911"

Since it certainly appears that I have Specific911 in the registry I looked at
SpybotSd1.4 properties and it said "No Digital Signature". Windows also
said version 0000. I wrote to the author of Spybot a week ago but didn't
get an answer as to why Spyware Doctor found specific911 and
Spybot didn't.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Is it possible to cc my eMail
with your answer so that I will see it as soon as I sign on?

(Thank you)**2

Please download HijackThis http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/HijackThis.exe - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Double click on the program to run it.

1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'.
2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log.
3. Post the hijackthis.log file here. Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless.

Some tools will catch things the others don't, due to the constant barrage of spyware. Go ahead and post all of your replies in this thread. Someone may have a similar problem to yours and may benefit from having the information out in the open.

Killed everything else clicked HJT in WinExplorer got this

Thanks for the quick reply.
I really still want to know answers to checksums under winXp and the
other questions I asked.

I was going to post the log to HJT HELP after I was sure of other things
via checksums ect.

But since you asked here then I Killed all other processes except
WinExplorer then clicked the HJT in C:\HJT which I got from your link.

this is the log. I'll be grateful for answers to my ?? and what you can
determine from this!

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers.

Please disable Spybot's TeaTimer. It may interfere with our changes. You can enable it when we are finshed.

If you have one of these, you will most likely have the other. Either way, here are some information on them:

BroadJump - Newer name for BroadJump Foundation Client (BJCFD) from BroadJump.com, now Motive. The software collects information on your Internet activity and sends it to your ISP so that your ISP can serve you advertisements related to the type of sites you visit.

Support.com - Spyware from SupportSoft provided to manufacturers, such as Sony (Vaio Support Agent) and Toshiba (Virtual Tech), and ISPs, such as Comcast, Cox and Charter (Pipeline Support Agent), that allows them to offer on-line support. This part ensures that software is installed correctly. Regarded as spyware as it has the ability to retrieve user information.

I would ask your ISP on how to remove it and why they installed it in the first place. Please do not uninstall the program, since it looks like it is required for your internet connection. This especially applies to those who use SBC as their ISP (Internet Service Provider). If they can't/won't resolve this problem for you, then it's time to switch to another provider that don't embed this spyware in their program. You will most likely also have BroadJump installed. The same situation applies here also. Try to find out how to remove it from your ISP. Don't uninstall it yourself.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cus...://my.yahoo.com

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cus...//www.yahoo.com
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cus...://my.yahoo.com

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int ernet Settings,ProxyOverride = *.r3.attbi.com;<local>

Restart and run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here.
