Every time I try to record sound with my mic, the mic activity level goes up by very little. Then, when I play back what I've recorder, all I can hear is very quiet static. I know the sound card and mic are working, since it records perfectly on Linux, which I have on the same pc. Also, recording seemed to work fine on WinME before I've installed WinXP. I've already gone through most troubleshooting steps, I have the latest sound drivers from the Via website, the latest motherboard drivers, the volume is adjusted to the max, and the mic is selected as the input device. Please help me with this issue.

My PC:
AMD Duron 700 Mhz
STI Calgary motherboard
VIA Technologies VT8363/5 KT133/KM133 system controller
448 Mb SDRAM
ATI Radeon 9000 Pro
Windows XP Professional
VIA AC'97 WDM
ComboAudio v3.70b audio drivers
