ok did you verify that artsd was running? You can do this by typing the following from a console window, don't use the quotes.

"ps -aux | grep artsd"

try that and lets us know what you find.

Ok, that gets us a bit further. The out put means that the Arts Daemon is not running. So from your prompt you should be able to type, without the quotes.

"artsd &"

This will start the arts sound daemon for you and you should be good to go, now that won't start it everytime you boot however, if you want to do that let me know.

modprobe snd-pcm-oss
modprobe snd-mixer-oss

This works but I have to do it everytime I boot in order to work.

k ... in order to fix that portion, go to /etc/init.d I believe in Mandrake .. and then look for rc.local

in that file

vi rc.local

and do those commands one line at a time, and then you'll be good to go. It'll execute them for you each time you boot up..
