I just installed fedora core 8 (werewolf) on my laptop and the audio is extremely garbled. linux detects my soundcard as:

Intel corporation Model 82801G (ICH7 Family) high definition audio controller

The also driver version is 1.0.15

Is there any other driver I can use or settings I can utilize to clear up the audio? All programs are affected by this so its not a specific misbehaving program that is causing the garbled audio.

Any advice?

Hey,

This isn't much of an educated answer except that I did some research on the net and this is a VERY common problem with Fedora users on other forums with that specific audio controller. Lets hope someone knows a fix other than to have you replace it :(

You can try the OSS Mixer instead of the ALSA Mixer....I'm not sure that'll help you out though. I've noticed that is PCM is turned all the way up the sound can get distorted. Maybe try turning it down to 3/4 or so and turn up the Master Volume or turn the speaker volume up.
