Hello,

Yesterday, I installed a driver for my HP scanner on my Windows 98 machine. After doing so, every time I opened MSIE, Netscape, or AOL, "explorer" "Netscape" or "WAOL" would crash, making internet access impossible. The first thing that I did was uninstall the scanner driver, which didn't work.

The computer is connected to the internet via a cable modem, which I tried installing the drivers for, to no avail.

I greatly appreciate any assistance that can be provided.

well, it might not be your scanner...when you say it crashes, does it just close or does it give you any error messages ? You said you have cable modem....and AOL...you got AOL high speed internet ?

No, the cable modem is Comcast.

I screwed around in msconfig. I got it working, but now I'm being suddenly inundated with spyware that pops up windows and changes my homepage.

If you're going to use a computer on the Internet, especially with an "always on" connection, proper firewall protection is a must! I guess you've got that figured out now. :D
