Okay - this is a strange thing.

The laptop is great, I'm helping a friend do some work with it, and everything works fine.

Display out is fine, works great on a widescreen monitor.

The catch?

If I plug the charger into the laptop, regardless of whether it's plugged into an outlet, I get a weird display corruption on my external monitor, I know this is far from the technical term, but it "warbles"

I get lines, as if you had a really high-powered fan sitting next to it.

It would make sense if the power supply was plugged in, but even with it unpluged from the outlet, it still happens.

I've tried with my wife's computer, and with no power supply plugged in, it's fine, even with one plugged in - it's just this one that's having issues.

Any thoughts??

Much appreciated :)

what is the exact make and model of the laptop?
the exact make and model of the ac adaptor?

seems to me that that AC adaptor is not the official one or its worn down....or
the VGA or DVI out is faulty

your laptop doesn't "warble" when its plugged in?

The model, from what I can see, is PCG-7133.

And it's a new laptop, within a few months.

The adapter is the one designed for it.

And the "warbling" only happens when the adapter is plugged in.

For example now, no adapter - the screen is fine.

I stress again, too, that it doesn't matter whether the adapter is plugged into a power source (I thought for sure it was just a dirty power problem, but no) it still has the smae issues.

is your external monitor crt, lcd, or plasma?

If it's crt, try degaus.

If it's plasma, place the power brick further away from the display if they are close together

If it's lcd......i can't think of anythign off hand.
