Sony Dvd+rw Dw-p50a

Hi there,

I have a HP Pavilion zt3000 laptop (approx 4 years old now) and my DVD drive is not working.

It appears to recognise there is a disc in the drive but does not play it, or burn anything etc. There is a disc in the drive but it just doesn't load anything. I have thought of re-formatting my computer but am worried will not be able to install anything back on to the laptop.

Anyone got any ideas as to what may be causing this issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

don't reformat
check for a firmware update for the drive
uninstall the upper and lower filters
scroll down to how here

clean the lasers with a cleaning disk
