Something weird after reformatting

751 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  CCT
I just formatted my C: because I was unable to boot. I tried this thing I saw on pcworld that showed how to backup your files when formatting. All is well but, in my computer the D: doesn't have the drive picture, it's kinda the default picture/unknown file picture and all the files within each folders are in hidden mode. Just wanted to find out what's going on, I have many important files in that drive, I'm just worried. Thanks.

Your statements aren't quite clear. So, if you could help us out we can find out what is going on. First what is the D: Drive? Is this a CD/DVD or is it another partition or external drive? How did you backup your files? Did you use a program? If so, you will need to use that program to restore your files.
Right click the Start button and choose Explore. In the Windows Explorer, go to Tools/Folder Options/View put a check in the radio button for Show Hidden Files and Folders click Apply and OK. Can you see your backup files now?
Since you reformatted, you'll likely have to use the backup program again, as spunkfunk is indicating, OR you may just have to take ownership of the folder and contained files per -> How to take ownership of a file or a folder in Windows XP

It depends on the backup program you used.
