Running xp, compaq. all of sudden no audio devices loaded. system restore won't work (all saved points gone) Can't playback anything or record. I need help. Please

Lots of things changed. toolbar went to old 98 gray with blue load bar instead of blue taskbar with green segmented load bar.

Have you got a copy of windows xp?
if so then try booting from the CD/ DVD and repair the missing files from the cd/dvd.

No I don't. something has really attacked my system. email password is gone,

bump, I really need help .. My son messed with the system in msconfig now it is screwed up/ PLease someone help me I need my media player for work.
