I was wondering if anybody knows how to shut explorer down without shuting windows down... As in using windows without a start menu or a desktop.

Thanks ahead!

You can shut explorer down through task manager but as you need it to use windows it will automatically restart...

hehe

i havent a clue how to do it correctly, but i know how to cause a freeze that will cause the explorer to shut down, and then you cant do anything...

so i dont see why you would want to shut down explorer, as it is what the hell you are using to do your dirty work.

without explorer, what then? you wouldnt have any desktop, any icons, or any type of a start bar.

the machine would simply sit there and drool

now, they make a dozen or more tools that can force the explorer to split into an internet explorer, and a shell explorer, maybe thats what you want to do.

i even seen one that can make the desktop just like 95, or even 3.1

and one that allows you to replace the windows shell with any type of browser...

but all that stuff just works like crap.
