Hello all,

I've been using VB 2005 Express (free download version) for the past 12 months without any problems. But recently I've noticed a lot of network traffic when loading, saving and compiling. By network traffic I mean the ADSL router lights indicate network and internet activity.

Traffic whilst loading is OK because the front page has to be updated (displays news items and things), but I’m concerned about other times.

Both MS and Yahoo! messengers have been uninstalled (BTW I detest the word "Yahoo!" does the forum have an alternative name for it?).

Anyway, I have recently taken the following action. I'm running Norton, so before I start coding I now use Personal Firewall to block all traffic. VB Express does not like it at all !

I get a frustrated icon that looks like a TV frantically flashing at me on the app’s status bar.

Any idea what’s going on?

Thanks

Peter Barry

Have a read and follow this and see if it helps: http://www.techsupportforum.com/sec...54-users-self-help-malware-removal-guide.html

I wouldn't go near Norton for the world either.
Thanks for your reply.

Since posting that item I downloaded NetLimiter and feel somewhat comforted that it was not Bill Gates looking over my shoulder but my second computer! It was just a bit of network activity.

Slightly off subject, I have every confidence in Norton - but many professionals and hardened amateurs tend to say nasty things about it. Been using it for five years now and have NEVER picked up anything malicious.

Ok thats good that you have it working adequately. I'm an experienced user since 2002 of Norton on over 1000 systems worldwide. I have too many objectionable reasons and experiences with it to even pay a look towards it. Especially, dealing with Window OS problems for individuals will make that light click as to whats so bad about it.
