Videos/Codecs not playing.

Well, I was trying to install Vista to test it, but it didn't work out too well, so I went back to XP. Note that I was trying to dual-boot w/ 2 primary partitions on one harddrive. When I stopped trying to install Vista and tried to watch a video, it just didn't play; it gives me a white screen while the audio still plays. It was working prior to this and I was just wondering if anybody has had a similar experience. Also, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the following:
1. Codecs (K-Lite)
2. DivX Player & Codecs
3. VLC
4. Video Display Drivers
My video card is an EVGA Nvidia 8800GTX; motherboard is EVGA 680i.

I didn't fully format the disk. That would have been a pretty obvious thing I overlooked XD. Also, it seems to have affected my audio on some files. I'm playing some music videos from Yahoo Launch and it seems to have made some dynamics (right word choice?) of the audio louder while some are more suppressed.
Edit: Will post back after formatting.

The only thing I can think of is getting your hands on Ace Mega Codecs pack v5.93. During installation it will ask you if you want to use 'Agressive Remover' (or something similar) which will wipe all existing codecs from the system to avoid future conflicts.

I've had v5.93 installed for about 3 years now and have never needed to install a single codec since so it has a very comprehensive set of codecs.

p.s - make sure it's v5.93 as it's the most stable release and i'm not sure if the newer versions have the agressive remover.
