I've done a Destructive Recovery format and reinstalled Windows XP but i'm still have issues with ie 8,firefox and chrome crashing. I can't update any windows update since I updated to sp 3. I can't get avg or norton to update or do complete virus scan.

Re: XP/Internet browsers

Hi uw99,

First, please post your computer specs. Do you have a desktop or a laptop? What is the brand/model of your computer?

Do you have the computer hardware drivers installed on your computer? Do you get any error messages?

Re: XP/Internet browsers

That could be the issue right there having two anti virus programs (Realtime) running. That can cause system instability your IE issues and Windows update issues. As mentioned before pick one and uninstall the other. If you want to keep AVG I would recommend using Nortons removal tool after uninstalling it.

Update all drivers mainly your chipset drivers.

Re: XP/Internet browsers

I've removed both virus programs and still have same issues I'm thinking its a issue with my hard drive or my RAM and I've repaired/installed all the drivers

Re: XP/Internet browsers

Did you use the Nortons removal tool also. Uninstalling Nortons by normal means does not get rid of all Nortons settings and files. There might be settings that are enabled.

Re: XP/Internet browsers

I used both removal tools for norton and avg. I reset Internet Explorer and performed a disk error check. I have no anti virus on my pc right now.

Download the ISO image for Memtest in my signature and burn the image to CD using IMGBurn also in my signature. Remove all but one stick of RAM and boot off of the newly created CD and run the tests on each stick of RAM separately. If there are any errors, that stick needs to be replaced.

Re: XP/Internet browsers

Remove all but one stick of RAM and test again to find what stick has the problem.
Glad you got it sorted. Please mark this thread Solved in the Thread Tools at the top.
