I have just bought a licensed version of XP home including service pack 2.

I am having trouble installing it, it gets as far as writing files to my hard drive completes doing that and then says it is time to restart, but when it restarts and says press any key to boot from cd/dvd drive it just stops there and a few letters have small purple/yellow squares around them....

have tried switching the boot priority to the hard drive but that doesnt seem to work.

Any help would be useful.

Re: XP installation

it is a custom built system-

wd320 hdd, intel e8400 cpu, nvidia geforce 8400gs, 4 gigs of ram, MB:GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R,500w Super Black 2 PSU

it did not tell me to remove the XP installation disc from the dvd drive so I did not

okay, when it restarts, did you press any key? If you did - don't and let it boot from drive.

Re: XP installation

yes, I got it working,

it said after installing some files-'if there is a floppy disk in drive A, take it out'

which is what confused me, it meant the XP installation dvd. so I removed that before it rebooted and it installed fine, thanks for the help.
