Greaaaat, one of those days again.
Anyways, my PC just suddenly initiated turn-off, made me lose 2 hours of work. :upset: While the computer is still in process of turning off, I was pissed enough to press the reset button. That really did it... Now my PC does not boot up at all. It displays bios but DOES NOT display the familiar windows xp splash screen; It just hangs there with a black screen after bios post.

I have made sure no removable hardware is conflicting, booted with only keyboard and mon. No luck. Tried system repair with xp boot disk: No luck.
I did chkdsk and it found one or more errors. So then I did chkdsk /r again and now I will probably leave it on while I sleep because its stuck at 50 ish% for god knows how long.

Here are my PC stats:
Windows XP Pro 64bit
Corsair 2G 800mhz RAM
Ultra 600 PSU
ASUS p5ne-sli mobo
XFX 7950 GTXXX
Intel Dual Core 2.4ghz

I believe all my hardwares are fine except HDD maybe? I have S.M.A.R.T status checked just a few days ago and it indicated a fine HDD.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Windows XP. No boot. No splash screen.

Hi mazzii,

Try powering up the computer from a 'cold start', while continually tapping the F8 Key.

Doing this will take you to "The Safe Mode Menu Screen"; select the option "Last Known Good Configuration", and follow the on-screen prompts.

Post back with the outcome.

Kind Regards,

Re: Windows XP. No boot. No splash screen.

hello. I tried tabbing F8 and it did bring me to the menu page. However, with last known configuration it still just stucks there, no boot without no OS splash screen. I also tried booting with safemode, it displays lines of msg and stucks at loading crcdisk.sys.

Re: Windows XP. No boot. No splash screen.

Alright I went and got my HDD checked. It turned out to be OK but some how the OS got corrupted so it won't boot. I had to buy another HDD and install a new OS on that. Right now I am stuck with 2 HDDs on which my old applications will no longer work because they are no longer on the C Drive. Is there a way to change all the registrys of the old file paths to something like F instead of C. And also while trying to access the documents and settings/administrator/desktop - I was told that I do not have the access T-T. Good game to all my desktop documents.

In order to use the programs again, you are going to have to reinstall them on the active C: drive

Re: Windows XP. No boot. No splash screen.

I did it by tweaking the registry and "taking ownership of some of the folders and files". Now they run smoothly again. Thank you for the replies ;)
