Hi

I have Microsoft Office 2007. Automatic updates keeps installing Powerpoint Viewer 2007 Service Pack 3 (SP3). It's listed on the update page 36 times and it still wants to update. It's not listed in the add/remove programs, that's probably why it keeps wanting to install it. Apparently it's not being installed. Powerpoint Viewer 2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1) is installed.
I tried Microsoft Fixit and it said windows update components are configured incorrectly and must be repaired and Default windows update data locations have changed and must be repaired. I did this 5 times but it's still the same. Each time it says it's repaired but the problem persists. Then the next time I do it, it says it needs to be repaired.

The update wants to install a bunch of securities for Microsoft Office 2010. I don't have 2010..I have 2007. There are a few 2010 updates in the Add/Remove programs.. I don't know how they got there or why. I don't want to install updates for a program I don't have.

I recently restored my hard drive through a Norton Ghost backup back to 2 weeks before Christmas. That was the only good point I was able to use. I couldn't get into System Restore or do an XP repair. I don't know if this has anything to do with this problem.

Thanks

Steve

Re: windows update problem

Many Office Updates for 2010 also are for 2007 as well. You should install all Windows/Office Updates. Office Updates require that the Office CD or drive that Office was installed from be in the computer to access the .MSI file to do the update.
Go to Start/Run and type SFC /scannow, and press enter. Put the XP CD in and it will replace any missing System files from the CD.

Re: windows update problem

Hi

Thanks for answering.

I did the scan and installed the Office 10 updates and the Powerpoint Viewer 2007 Service Pack 3 (SP3) again. The Office 10 updates installed ok, so no problems with them.
The Powerpoint Viewer 2007 Service Pack 3 (SP3) keeps saying it's installed when I install it through Microsoft update but keeps showing up to install again and again..at least 40 times. It's not listed in control panel/add or remove programs. Something is stopping it to be installed.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help. I do appreciate it.
