Hello,

I need a new PC. The idea is that i can play World of Warcraft with Maximum Viewing Distance on highest quality. Aswell as be able to browse internet, listen to music without alot of waiting time.

That is the basic that will last me a few years, i just need a PC that does OK and ontop of that can also play WoW. I don't think it will be able to handle Farcry 2 or GTA IV but i hope so.

I think years back this sort of computer would have cost more than a thousand but it's alot cheaper now right? Also i probably will buy it second hand.. It saves money but i have to be 100% sure what im buying so that's tricky.

Building is also a option, i have a family member that can help me with that. He knows alot about computers. Okay and the budget? I was thinking that maybe for 300-500 euro i can afford this kind of PC? What do you think?

Greetings and welcome to the forum!!! I'm in the states and am familiar with prices here but, for 400 euro you can easily get a computer that can handle WOW on the best settings. If you don't need a monitor, mouse, keyboard, or speakers. You may be able to get a 'barebones' set. I would look for an i5 or i7 processor 4gigs of decent ram, and a good hard drive (ssd if you wanna reach the top of your budget). The ssd hard drive allows for faster loading times which WOW tends to have trouble with. You will need a good internet connection and a decent video card. Look for a video card with a 256bit memory bus.

To end, you need a good processor and a decent video card. Also having a good ssd hard drive will have you on ultra.

With that being said I will leave the build or buy decision up to you. If you can find a used computer that follows my guidelines them have at it.

Hope this helps,

Good luck and let me know how you turn out.

Re: What kind of PC should i get?

Hi Oogles36,

Thanks for your response. I'm going to look around and see what i can find. Although i am probably going to be limited to two stores that are in my hometown.

Why? Sometime ago i bought a PC online for 499 euro, everyone with knowledge of computers said its a good idea. Weeks of waiting and days of installing.. turns out the whole thing could not even handle the simplest of games.

As i said i don't know a thing about computers, a few friends do though and they all said it was useless to try anything but to send it back.

I was not waiting for such a pile of  so i sent it back.. it got lost in their corporations storage houses and i had to wait months for my money.

Do you play WoW? I used to play years ago, its a shame though how they trashed Azeroth.. could not even keep their hands of the Durotar/barrens/elwynn forest soundtracks. Shame :)

I do not play WOW good sir but I am familiar with the settings. My computer is a heavy gaming computer so I know how to achieve good graphics for most of the games out there.

Let me know before you purchase anything and I will advise on the deal you are getting and if I believe its worth it. Where are you located? I may be able to research some websites that ship to your area.

Would you prefer one that is already completely pre assembled?

Also, do you need a monitor / keyboard / mouse?

I live in the Netherlands. Maybe i should reconsider shipping, it can be trustworthy but ofcourse im still anxious about it thanks to my previous experience.

It all depends on the price really and availability. I am definately the kind of person that wants to play fast after the purchase so i guess i'll go with pre assembled.. can't be that bad?

Unless with preassembled you mean built in video card? My previous buy had one i think. It could not play any games and it would have costed me a power supply and video card to get it working. I don't need a monitor/keyboard/audio/mouse.

Re: What kind of PC should i get?

most prebuilt computers come with crap power supplies which is the most important components. If you insist on buying then make sure the psu is good.

Building has many advantages over buying prebuilt such as you can ensure quality parts, it is often cheaper, you know the parts have been installed correctly and building is fun.

Re: What kind of PC should i get?

I've done some research and i am beginning to understand how a pc works. With some searching and help from an expert we stumbled upon a pretty good PC:

Computerland - De no-nonsense computerwinkel

I can also choose:

Computerland - De no-nonsense computerwinkel

But you can't upgrade with the latter, where as the first has a stock of 4GB and can be upgraded to 16. We are going to look into this pc and and i might have my first contender

There is no need for 16GB RAM as no game will use more than 3GB. The second PC is a better brand however none of them are going to be good gaming systems and they both come with unbranded power supplies that are not very powerful so you would be limited to the graphics cards they come with unless you upgraded the power supply.

please check these suggested builds from ourselves http://www.techsupportforum.com/for...evised-2012-and-updated-regularly-448272.html

Greetings!!

Of the two you have found I like the second one the best. I would consider upgrading the power supply. There were a few on that web site for 80-100 which would do you fine. As GBL said, check that link he provided for TSF's recommended builds to get an idea of a sufficient power supply.

Re: What kind of PC should i get?

Thanks for all the responses, ok so 600 + about 70-100 for power supply. I can't believe how hard to find this kind of computer with the right power supply.

Was hoping i could buy all in one purchase, i don't see any major differences between a whole set and custom made IF all the components were there.

I am also getting alot of conflicting messages. My friend has a computer with a low power supply aswell. He had the deal for 400 euros. He can run GTA IV, WoW on high, alot of new games.

He says that this will do alright so that makes me wonder, this whole set without the upgrade wouldnt this do just fine, untill the time comes to upgrade? And considering the cost would it not be better to find one whole package?

running a system underpowered is possible but at some point you will damage it and have to replace the whole thing because of you negligence.

Re: What kind of PC should i get?

What provides the power to all your other expensive hardware? The power supply! Do you want to take the risk of damaging your hardware running a low quality underpowered PSU? The PSU is the heartbeat of system and as such should not be the place to cut costs. These computer builder sites always use lower quality parts and especially the PSU as they buy them in bulk to get a great price on them.

Note that no Brand Names are listed for the components in those builds. Online builders tend to use lower quality parts, particularly the PSU, to increase profits.
Building your own is not complicated and you are assured of quality components.
Use our suggested build list as a guide. Select the parts you want to use, post them here and we can advise accordingly.

Hi again,

I followed the instructions in the topic you linked, and i put together a PC. On a website called Alternate. This will cost me 540 euro, which is really cheap if you compare it to just about anything else out there.

Check it out:

CPU
CPUs Socket AM3
AMD Phenom II X4 960T
4x 3000 MHz, 4x 512 kB, 6144 kB, Deneb

Case
Antec Two Hundred V2
3x 5,25" extern, 1x 2,5" Hotswap, 6x 3,5" intern, , ATX, µATX

Motherboard
Motherboard Socket AM3+
GIGABYTE GA-970A-D3
AMD 970, ATX, 2x PCIe 2.0 x16, AM3+

Harddisk
Harddisks 3,5 inch SATA
Seagate ST320DM000

I would prefer to see a 550W minimum PSU.
You will also need a SATA optical drive.
The rest looks good to me.

Re: What kind of PC should i get?

You won't be able to max out World of Warcraft with max viewing distance on a 6670 unfortunately. With a some compromise you will get smooth performance in-raid but as for 40+fps while flying with max viewing distance I doubt the 6670 will be very rewarding.

http://media.bestofmicro.com/1/2/269606/original/AMD Ultra Graphics 1920.png

I would recommend the 6870, considering how much time you're going to be putting in on WoW and that it's only a little more expensive than the 6850.

A good quality ~650w PSU would be required for any of those cards.
