Sorry to be an ignoramus but the site which I manage has just been temporarily suspended becasue the bandwidth has been exceeded. I have the option to buy more for this month but confess I don't understand why this has happened. Nothing significant has changed on the site.

Is Bandwidth affected by the amount of stuff on the site (photos etc) or is it just the traffic generated by visitors?

Any advice or pointers to understandable reading would be gratefully recieved.

Re: What is bandwidth

The amount of data you can transfer.

For example, if the webpage is 1MB big and your bandwidth is 100MB/month, only 100 people can download from the page before you exceed your bandwidth.

Most of the time it's not the pages that is the problem...it's downloadable content such as MP3's, videos, etc. Even if you're not supplying this kind of content, it's still good to be mindful to selecting a web host with good bandwidth. For instance, my HostGator package is 600 GB - so I have never had any bandwidth issues...
