Hey guys...keep me posted if there are any down the road problems...probley going to install it this week...
Did you have to agree to M$ new "WE OWN ALL OF YOUR CONTENT AND TOTAL CONTROL OF YOUR COMPUTER" License Agreement. Beware I have used BlackIce Defender for about four or five years now nothing has gotten it, I check regularly at "Steve Gibson Web Zone" using his "Shields Up" utility and allways get a "Stealth Mode" - perfect settings on all inbound traffic ports.
A couple of nights ago I was going to download some secrurity updates from "Windows Update" when I got a dialog box saying that I could not download anymore M$ updates until I agreed to their new lisencing agreement I started seeing red.
I tried 3 or 4 times to slip by couldn't and must inavertally download it any way, because yesterday while checking my setting and getting ready to install the lastest version of BlackD I found a new entry in the [Intrusion Dedection] -> [Trusted IP Addresses] section and here it is:
IP Address: All
Event Name: SMB WinReg File
Event Id: 2002703
This entery cannot be modified or deleted (all the other entries can be).
I'm still working all a way to get rid of it with out uninstalling and reinstalling the Program. All my M$ products are legal I just don't want M$ are anyone else playing around on my computers.
Good Luck.

ps - The shorter I try to make my replys the longer they get.
The only issue I have found that if you boot into safe mode it hangs on the Windows Is Starting Up... banner.
It takes a while but be patient it will start, At least mine did...
Oh it also takes a while when you click restart.
SP3 installs a new service called "Automatic Updates".
This is the same one as found in XP.
And if you don't like it to connect automatically to windows and update and download the available patches, you just have to disable the service.
While I was "browsing" through the services I found this one: Background Intelligent Transfer Service
Apparently, this is what it does:
quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Transfers files in the background using idle network bandwidth.
If the service is stopped, features such as Windows Update, and MSN Explorer will be unable to automatically download programs and other information.
If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it may fail to transfer files if they do not have a fail safe mechanism to transfer files directly through IE in case BITS has been disabled.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I did not like BITS so I disabled it...
I am not sure if this is a SP3 "feature" but I can not remember seeing this service while SP2 was installed
