So I recently purchased parts to build a computer, everything is new, except I reused my old case. This is only the second time I've done this, the first time was many years ago. The problem I ran into was that my video card (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130433&Tpk=EVGA%20896-P3-1257-AR%20GeForce%20GTX%20260%20Core%20216) won't fit into my case. It needs to fit into the PCI Express 16x slot, but the face plate takes up what looks like two expansion slots on the back of my case (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811171055). More than that, the outputs on the card just don't line up very well with the slots. Unfortunately, it looks like there's nothing that I can do short of cutting up the back of my case to make this card fit in. My question is this: is the size of the face plate on this video card pretty standard for decent cards nowadays? I'm not super attached to this card, so I'd be willing to exchange it for something that does fit into this case. The card is definitely better than what I need, so I'd be willing to downgrade (a little bit). On the other hand, I'm also not really attached to this case. It's nice and durable, and cool, but if it's going to be hard for me to find a video card (of any quality) that fits into it, maybe I'm better off just investing in a new one.
Let me know what you guys think or if you need a better explanation . Like I said, this is only the second time that I've done this, and so maybe I've done something really dumb to make this card not fit. Any advice is much appreciated.

Re: Video card/case advice

The card does take up two expansion slots and I don't know of any 260's that don't. It's a lot of card and needs a lot of cooling.
I don't know what Mobo you are using but you "should" be able to install it if you have room on the Mobo.
Large cards can be a litle tricky to get into the Mobo slots but EVGA is a quality brand so I would assume the alignment issue would be with the case.
Perhaps someone with more knowledge of the upper end graphics cards can suggest a substitute.

Re: Video card/case advice

the problem was that there was a (not sure of the technical term) "no screw" installation bit on the case so none of the cards needed to be screwed down, which didn't allow for the two slots on this card. I just took it out and the card fits fine, problem solved. thanks anyways

Re: Video card/case advice

Tyree had it right, glad you got if figured out. All of the upper end cards
are about the same, takes 2 slots. With the screwless connections some
times you have to use your imagination on how to attach.
