Hi
I am working on a Windows 2000 comp and have two disk drives in it, one is a CD-Rom and the other is a DVD Player, (not a burner). In order to get the DVD player to play smoothly I had to enable DMA mode on that drive, so I can play DVDs on it, but it doesn't work for playing games or installing programs. I use the CD-Rom for installing programs, and playing games but was planning to use it for music CDs. It will play the CDs but they don't sound quite right. I have the small cable connected from the back of the DVD player to the sound card, but do not have a cable connected from the back of the CD-Rom to the sound card. I was wondering if this is the problem or if there even is a way that both of the separate drives can be hooked into the one sound card.
If anyone knows the answer, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

Re: Using two disk drives

DMA should always be enabled. PIO Mode is slow. The DVD-ROM should play and install all discs. What Brand & Model and how old is the DVD-ROM?
Disconnect the cable to the sound card and se what happens.

Re: Using two disk drives

Hi

Thanks for your quick response to my question. The DVD-Rom is quite old, I took it out of an old Win 98 Comp. It is a Toshiba SD-M1202. I will try your suggestion of removing the audilo cable from it, and I hope this works, because it would be better just to have one optical drive.

Thanks

Re: Using two disk drives

The old drive could be the problem. When a drive is failing it can cause issues with the other drive.
