System specs,
gigabyte ga-78lmt-s2 mobo
nvidea geforce gt 610 gpu
amd fx6100 3.3ghz processor
300w generic psu
8 gb ddr3 1333 ram
nzxt source 210 gaming case w/window,

my question is, if i buy radeon 7870 gpu and a corsair 750 w psu, Will the rest of my rig be able to handle the added power? my biggest concern is the mobo, i'm almost certain my case has enough room. I am open to opinions and advice is greatly appreciated. I will be upgrading one part at a time (due to sub-par job) untill I feel I have a good gaming rig. also is a 750w psu strong enough for crossfire if future games demand more than the 7870 has to offer?
I will mostly be playing D3, Tombraider, and Black ops 2 for now.

Re: Upgrade advice needed.

Hello FPS_Prodigy, Welcome to the site.

Others will follow me and post other opinions, dont take mine as golden but.

I think A 750 W PSU is plenty, some even say overkill. I have a 1000. LOL
If you are going to replace in pieces and parts, do the PSU first. 300 is low and probably wont be enough for the newer video card.

Just my 2 cents

Re: Upgrade advice needed.

Hi FPS_prodigy,

What is your total budget?

I agree with Tomshawk in first purchasing the PSU. However, the PSU is dependent on what GPU you get... and that depends on your budget. SLI/Crossfire is not really advised as it offer very little advantages at the cost of excess heat, power consumption and increased chances of other issues occurring. For a single GPU, 650W should be more than sufficient (however it depends on the GPU). We recommend Seasonic and XFX.

EDIT: Sorry, In regards to your question 650W should be more than enough. If you intend to OC, then more may be better. For the GPU go for Sapphire for the best quality and support.

Well, The budget is debatably low considering I'll be saving between bills for upgrades... But my goal is to play Black Ops 2 on max settings no matter the cost, and probably some other new gamed in the future. What do you recomend? Comparing video cards makes my head spin lol so I dont even know if the 7870 is overkill or low end for my kinda games.

Re: Upgrade advice needed.

Thanx tomshawk, I am definatly gonna upgrade the psu first. And with 1000w of power your rig must be a beast :)
Yes, it is a beast, built specifically for gaming and streaming.

BTW, do you know what speed harddrives you have.
If you have the spare cash, go SSD, if not 7200 RPM is OK but 10 or 15,000 is better

Re: Upgrade advice needed.

Again, depends, for Black Ops, you probably would not see a difference
I agree. I think the HD 7850 would already max it out.

However, for current games the HD 7870 should be able to hang in there for you. No matter what, you're going to see a massive difference jumping up from the GT 610.
