Re: Unmountable boot volume

Do you mean try to save your data ? yes if you have a usb caddy to put your drive in and hook it up to another computer or use a linux live cd to transfer to a usb drive

Re: Unmountable boot volume

Hi

First you are going to need the Windows XP CD. If you do not have one you can download the Windows XP recovery Console ISO from here. (Note that this is just the recovery console and not the full Windows XP CD)
Write it to CD using a program like ImgBurn.
Once written to CD, boot your PC with the CD.
On the first screen press "r" to enter the recovery console.
When asked which Windows you want to log in to type in the number that corresponds to the correct installation (Usually "1")
Enter the Administrator password (if asked) else just press enter if you do not have one.
Then at the command prompt type
Code:
chkdsk c: /r
and enter.
Allow chkdsk to run.
Restart the PC once done.

For a more detailed document (with screen shots) on how to enter the recovery console see How to Enter Windows XP Recovery Console
