System:

Vista Ultimate SP 2

Problem started when I had an idea to move my wifes pictures folder to a shared drive. So I renamed the old pictures folder just incase I would need to recover it. Then I proceeded to create a ntfs directory from a disk and decided it wasn't worth it due to size, etc.

When I attempted to rename the old Pictures directory I couldn't, I recieved errors that the name already exists. After several tries I was unable to make it work, even after an attempt to delete the folder completely and recreate it.

Well now there are two pictures folders (system generated). I tried copying all the contents from the original to the new folder but then could not delete the old one because Vista wont let me.

Any way to correct the name of the original Pictures folder? You will see the object name in the security tab is "P" and not "Pictures"

See image.

Re: Unable to remove duplicate pictures directory

They both may appear to be "Pictures" - but one may be a different name.

Do this - log on to the user account in question -
START | type cmd.exe | RIGHT-click on cmd.exe | select "run as Administrator" then paste -
Code:
[FONT=Lucida Console]dir "%userprofile%\*.*" > "%temp%\1.txt" & start notepad "%temp%\1.txt"[/FONT]
Paste the output into your next post.

Jcgriff2, Awesome! Thanks for the response. You can see the original Pictures Directory shows up as P.

Re: Unable to remove duplicate pictures directory

Ok this issue is solved. When Jcgriff2 asked me to run that command as "Administrator" it occured to me that I could probably fix this problem if I used DOS.

So I opened "Windows Explorer" as Administrator then a "Command Window" as Administrator. I deleted the new "Pictures" folder as administrator in Explorer, then renamed P to Pictures at the Command prompt.

After a reboot all was well! Thanks Jcgriff2.
