Heyy all,

I've been trying to fix my sister's ancient computer as it has no sound.

I have tried installing various sound drivers such as 'SoundMAX digital' and 'Realtek', but nothing seem to work.

I know the motherboards manufacturer and model but cannot seem to find a sound driver compatible with it.

Manufacturer: Abit
Model: 0814h

I'm guessing it's probably an ancient motherboard? as the computer was bought around 2000. It has been reformatted (what seemingly triggered the problem) and is now Running XP.

Considering whether it would be wiser to buy a new motherboard compatible with the components of her computer as it is at the present time, or just tell her to live with no sound.

Any help is appreciated.

Re: Unable to match sound driver to motherboard

Is '0814H' the model as printed on the board itself? Abit model numbers usually begin with two letters followed by a number.

Re: Unable to match sound driver to motherboard

I have discovered the CPU socket type is socket 478, but the Realtek audio files in the Link you sent me download nothing to me.

Re: Unable to match sound driver to motherboard

I have solved this problem. I went to the local computer store, spent like $10 on a sound card and problem sound with the sound card and it's drivers.

Thanks for the help guys.
