I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 running Vista Home Premium SP2. The touchpad is an Alps electric. I checked for the latest driver, and I have the latest. It seems to be wearing out. I have to tap the left button sometimes twice and hard to get results. Also, when moving the cursor with the pad, sometimes the cursor gets erratic and flies off the screen. Could this be the result of the unit wearing out? I have cleaned the pad and buttons to remove any oils from my fingers. The laptop is 4 years old. I would like to keep it and replace the Alps unit if possible.

Thanks,

Re: Touchpad replacement

You could plug in a small usb mouse and use that instead. I hate touchpads anyway, my wife and I both have a basic optical mouse plugged in to our laptops all the time even though the touchpads work fine. It's just so much faster to get things done with a regular mouse, & they are more intuitive to use.

Re: Touchpad replacement

Thank you guys. After reading the manual instructions, I think I will wait awhile until it completely fails. Right now it is just a pain. I may just try to give it a thorough cleaning. Maybe air blast ( with the canned air, not a compressor :nono:) under the buttons, etc.
