Re: Successfully updated BIOS but now a black screen

Ouch.

The first thing you're going to want to do is clear your cmos if you haven't done so yet.

Does it sound like the hard drive is going through the normal bootup?
If so, you can try some troubleshooting.

Take out all the ram and try to bootup. See if you get beep codes.
I would even take out the video card and try booting, then put it back in
and try booting again.

But if the bios didn't flash correctly, it's possible you would have to send the board to Asus for the fix.

Re: Successfully updated BIOS but now a black screen

I don't think the hard drives are going through their normal boot up. I do notice that the floppy drive is making sounds.

How do i clear the CMOS? i did the f5 to set to default and saved it but that's it.

I'll try the boot up with our RAM and videocard when i get home.

I'm fairly certain that the BIOS flashed correctly. I have never did it before though.

What are beep codes?

Re: Successfully updated BIOS but now a black screen

ok, just tried starting it up with no ram, just one ram stick, and not video card. no success. i did notice that the floppy drive seems to be "wanting something" it makes a noise and flashes. i tried starting it up with out the floppy drive but there was no success there.

nevermind, i fixed it. turns out it was trying the boot off of the floppy drive because the boot priority was reset.
thanks for your help though

Ok, fwiw the cmos is powered by the battery. Right near the battery is a jumper that you move over one pin for 10-20 seconds or so, then put back into place.
That resets the bios, which in this case would have put your cd rom as the default first boot item. And so the machine would have booted up.
