While watching a media file with KMPlayer today an error sound started looping constantly without any error messages popping up. I opened up Task Manager and saw two processes which were started by the current USER not by the System. They were named "weed.exe" and "tigralocks.exe" both with low memory usage approximately 15000 K. After I terminated them the error sound stopped.
After rebooting weed.exe was initiated on startup.
Looked on the web - didn't find anything.
I also did a quick virus scan of the system and nothing came up. Found a WEED.exe-2655e10.pf file in the Windows prefetch folder.

All I want to ask is can anybody give me any kind of information about the processes weed.exe and tigralocks.exe? Should I be worried about them at all?

Re: Strange Processes

Only errors in the log were:
"The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk0\D." and
"A parity error was detected on \Device\Ide\IdePort0."

Also I've been getting these errors for a long time now, at least a month.

Re: Strange Processes

Do you have a single HDD with 2 partitions, C: and a D: ? it looks like there is some problems on the D: drive. Try running Check Disk.
Go to Start/Run and type CMD and press enter. In then Command Prompt type the drive letter D: and press enter (eg) D:\> at this prompt type chkdsk /R and press enter Now type a Y for Yes to Unmount the drive. Check Disk will go though 5 stages. I would backup any files you wish to keep on the C: and D: drive as the HDD may be failing.

Re: Strange Processes

\Device\Harddisk0\D
Go to Start/Run and type diskmgmt.msc and press enter. In the Disk Management window On the bottom half, on the left side what device is Disk0? (You can also attach a screenshot of Disk Management window.) Disk0 is the disk that has the problem and needs to have Check Disk run on it as suggested in Post#4.

Re: Strange Processes

Ok, if your HDD is a SATA HDD, and the DVD rom D: drive is an IDE drive, then either the Data cable needs to be changed or the DVD rom drive is failing and either needs to be replaced or just unplugged.
Looks like your DVD drive E: drive is doing fine though.

Re: Strange Processes

Thanks a lot for all the help and the E: Drive is a virtual one used by mounting software. Still my question about the weed.exe process stands. It still appears after startup. Can anyone explain what it is? Is it a normal Windows process or has it got something to do with malware, spyware or anything else I should be worried about? Thanks again.

Re: Strange Processes

The spyware VirTool:Win32, adds the process %Temp%\ixp000.tmp\weed.exe
