Hi we are a small business and our ISP has been bought by a different company and now they are changing our static IP address.
Our setup is:

DSL Modem
Sonic Firewall
3com switch
SBS 2003 server with 2NIC

At this point my question is what needs to be change and how?

I would appreciate the help.

Thank you,

Hi tescatlipoca,

May I ask, do you have plenty of computers connected to the network?

We have 14 PC's, Disaster recovery server, home server and SBS 2003 server connected
Re: Static IP Change HELP NEEDED!

AFAIK, the static IP address is assigned to the internet interface device, in your case, the modem.
Re: Static IP Change HELP NEEDED!

You will need to review two areas.

Sonicwall wan port is where the static ip should be assigned. You will need to change that.

SBS DNS forwarder will need to be changed from the former isp dns server ip entries to the new providers dns ips.

Understand?

As long as those are the only too yes. So I don't need to change any DHCP settings? we have a home server, disaster recovery server and etc assigned as reserved using SBS DHCP. Will there be any changes on those?
Re: Static IP Change HELP NEEDED!

Hi tescatlipoca,

As the change is due to your ISP changing this will only effect your WAN.

The only reason you would need to change the DHCP settings is if you set the DNS to be the ISP.

As long as the DNS of your DHCP scope is not that of the old ISP you should be fine.

Good Luck :)
Re: Static IP Change HELP NEEDED!

You should only be listing your local dns server in the dhcp scope and not the isps dns server which is why you don't need to make any changes.
