I am having trouble getting my laptop PC (Dell inspiron 8500, 512 mb SDRAM) to work through my Samsung digital TV . I have tried two different ways.

1. By using a fifteen pin SVGA monitor cable hooked up to my PC video connector and to the
“ PC in “ connector on the TV and an audio cable hooked to the PC head phone outlet and the TV audio in. Then I started a an ESPN3 video on the PC and changed the source on the TV to “PC”.
I got no picture or sound. This is the hookup that my Samsung owners manual shows.

2 By using an s-video cable which came with the PC and with and without a TV/digital audio adapter cable. This was hooked up to the s-video out on the PC and the s-video on the TV. Again changing the source on the TV to PC. I got nothing,

In both cases I went into “menu/setup/setting” on the TV and “pc” was greyed out and I could not select it. I also went to “control panel/display/settings/advanced’ on the PC where the manual said to select “”twin view” and “clone”. These options were not available.

I have followed the instructions in my Samsung manual for the monitor cable and the instructions in the Dell PC manual for the s-video hookup with no results.

Can you help me?

You are right on. Divice manager showed yellow question marks on the ethernet and vga drivers. I deleted the drivers and rebooted and got the same thing so I tried to reinstall
them from the Dell CD which came with the PC. No luck. I downloaded and installed drivers from Dell and will try them today. I'll post the results. Thanks.

Jim

By the way, I'm using windows XP.

Re: Showing PC screen on digital TV

After I downloaded the drivers from Dell two drivers in “device manager” under “device drivers’ disappeared. Only ‘Ethernet driver” was left and it was still covered with a yellow question mark. Now I have a new set - “Sound, video and game controllers”with 6 listed drivers.
1. Legacy video capture devices 2. audio codecs 3. Legacy audio drivers 4. Media control devices 5. SigmaTel C-Major Audio and 6. Video codecs. I think I got these by downloading “Roxio-Patch/Upgrade (Applies to Video Wave Movie creation).”

Well I hooked up the s-video cable after turning both PC and TV off, then I turned PC and then TV back on. Set the TV source to s-video. Got a signal but just a blurred picture of my PC wallpaper. No icons and no picture and no sound ( I do have an audio cable from my PC headphone jack to TV PC audio in) although I had a video running on the PC. Tried to correct in control panel without any luck.

Turned every thing off, disconnected the S-video cable a repeated the procedure with the VGA cable hook-up. Now I get a good quality picture of my wallpaper (even though I don’t have that showing on my PC screen) still have the video running. Now getting good sound through the TV.

Opened “Display//settings in control panel. This screen shows a box with two boxes labeled 1 and 2 and says drag the boxes in relation to the actual position of the two Under it it says :”Mutiple monitors on Mobility Radeon 9000" Then I click on “advanced”.

This screen has completely changed since the Dell download. It now has 13 new tabs - 1. Color Management. 2. Displays. 3. Color. 4. Open GL. 5. Direct 3D. 6. Options. 7. Rotation. 8. Overlay. 9. Power Play 9TM). 10. General. 11. Adapter. 12. Monitor. 13. Trouble shoot.
Under :displays” it shows four boxes - two lit up , one with “monitor” and a second with “panel”
the other two are xed out. I couldn’t get anything by clicking on these.. Under the “monitor “ tab it has a place to select a monitor but the only choice is :default monitor”
The bottom line is I believe my drivers are OK now. But I still can’t figure out how to get the video on the TV! Thanks for all the help.
