After being here for my first two weeks and internet media evolving I have decided to ask the below question.

Is it true youtube movies now use some sort of Video Acceleration method? I am asking this because ever since lots of improvements were introduced my video experience is going down fast (on YT and most 720p movies)

I am currently running the config you can see on the left + Omega drivers ver 2.6.75a ..

After searching for new Omega ones I found that they actually stopped doing these and I think my version is up to date.

Is it worth getting rid of these and getting the newest catalyst ones?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Saphire Rad 9600 XT 256

I'd say you are reaching the limits of your hardware...especially in regards to HD (ie: 720P/1080P) material.

In any case, have you updated Flash?

Also, open Task Manager and watch the cpu usage and processes. You will be able to tell if your cpu is being taxed and/or which process is using the cpu.

I find this ironic considering the fact I can play Mafia I in full hd maxed out without any problems, but some low quality pixelated movies in 480p are causing trouble :p

Flash based HD uses a lot of cpu power which you don't have , same for the gpu.

I'm not trying to be mean or anything , but I truly and honestly have gotten free/donated computers that had better specs.

There is a local library here that was selling their older computers for 30$ each and they even had better specs.

Shop around a bit for some new bare bones (cpu/mobo/ram), you can get yourself up to date for pretty cheap nowadays.

Re: Saphire Rad 9600 XT 256

that will not be a problem since I plan a new build anyways ;) my system still runs well only because I take good care of it and hate useless processes running ;) Personally a lot of PCs I look at for other people run like crap even though they outdo my specs ;) But yes - time to move on, however I will never sell/giveaway my current one.

And just a clarification in terms. HD or High Definition is a TV term. It also encompasses a wide range of resolutions (480i/P = 640x480, 720P = 1366x720, and 1080i/P = 1920x1080). So throwing around phrases like I can play X in full HD doesn't mean anything, as it could be referring to 640x480...which PC's have been using forever.

For PC use, everything is resolution. Even PC's that can't play an HD movie, can run an "HD" desktop resolution. So using the term "HD" means nothing in the PC world.

Now, in regards to HD video on the PC, there are two basic parts. Being able to display the correct resolution AND having the cpu and/or gpu power to decode the video source. In you case, you are missing the cpu/gpu power. You also have to take into account the source or format (ie: streaming Flash, DVD, file type, etc.), as they are all not equal.
