Bit of a strange question here and have been unable to find a solution elsewhere. I have just reformatted my PC and have Windows 7 Ultimate installed inc SP1. I have noticed however that my system is only recognizing 4.00GB of the 6 installed (Tri Slot 3 x 2.00). Before the format it was all recognized.

I have since noticed that if I update my BIOS to the latest version the PC WILL recognize all the RAM... HOWEVER I then get 2x restarts of a few seconds each before the system decides to Boot.

The latest BIOS updates do stipulate that they contain:

'Add Memory Recheck feature'
and
'Improve memory compatibility'

I am currently on BIOS version 0502 that only sees 4GB and doesnt restart. The 3 newest BIOS updates 0602, 0701, 0803 all recognise 6GB but have the restarts before it decides to boot up. (never more than 2)

It's driving me insane and cant quite seem to pinpoint the exact problem but have narrowed it down at least. Hoping someone on here with more experience can lend a hand.

PS: RAM sticks are fine and not defective.

specs:
Intel i7 950 3.07GHz
Nvidia GTX 470
6GB RAM
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit - SP1
500GB HDD

Re: Restart before Boot + Missing RAM

Brand & Model of the Mobo & PSU? Brand/specs of the RAM?
How have you determined the RAM is not a defective?
If the 6 GB of RAM was recognized before the reinstall, a Bios update should not be required to recognize 6GB now.

Re: Restart before Boot + Missing RAM

Apologies for missing those out. RAM was test using memtest when it was recognized.

PSU: OCZ ModXStream Pro 700W Modular
RAM: Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz
MOBO: Asus P6X58D-E

Re: Restart before Boot + Missing RAM

Was MemTest ran on one stick at a time and allowed to make several passes?

Re: Restart before Boot + Missing RAM

It would appear one did decide to play up. The restarts were letting me know there was a hardware problem. I pulled them all out and restarted the PC putting one in at a time. Anyway.... fixed and replaced now.

Thanks
